Just read in the Swedish photo magazine Kamera & Bild about a rumor citing that Zeiss will bring lenses to the EF mount... launching 15. Septermber... What do you think?

Anyway... if this is true, (and apparently we'll know in two weeks), the L lenses suddenly will start looking cheap LOL

as with any 3rd party lenses, they will be horrendously front and back focus with a bunch of people crying soft copies.

Not true... At least, not for a while...
Zeiss has a contract with Sony, stating that Zeiss will only make AF lenses that work on Sony mounts. So, until that contract runs out, Zeiss can't make AF lenses for Canon. To my understanding, they make MF only lenses for Canon, but not AF.

But how long is that contract? When does it run out?

I could easily see Zeiss making some high-end MF lenses for Canon to establish a beachhead until the Sony contract expires. Doesn't mean they would, but that seems like a viable marketing strategy.

My question is why hasn't Zeiss produced EF mount lenses before now? Seems like they're cutting themselves off from a tremendously lucrative market segment--all those 5D owners who've collected the entire L series and have no place else to spend their money!
