I think something like a 24-70 would be fine. I have had great success with it during weddings. 5D4 | 50 1.4 | 85L II | 24-70L II | 70-200 2.8L IS II

How much space? I would recommend using the longest FL you can to try and avoid the severe distortion effects of UWA/WA. xgender.net

You may "love" wide angle, but it really isn't the best lens for this type of shot, as the distortion it will introduce wont gain you any friends! 1DsMkIII | 1DMkIIN | 70-200 f/2.8L IS | 24-70 f/2.8L | 24-105 f/4L IS | 17-40 f/4L | 50 f/1.2L | WFT-E1 & E2 Transmitters - Click Here for setup advice | CP-E4 Battery Pack x 2 | ST-E2 | 580EX | 550EX | 430EXII | 420EX | Tripod + monopod | Bowens Esprit Gemini 500W/s heads & Travel-Pak | All this gear - and still no idea

I find that there isn't any distortion at that length. I went to a graduation recently and shot with my 16-35 since I was in a crowded reception hall and the distortion definitely showed. --Ducko

What do you think, I love extreme wide angle!@ Ultra wide angle lenses and portraits usually don't mix. Distortion tends to lead to unflattering results.
