hello

i have a rebel XT with the kit lens and the 50 1.8

i really enjoy portrait photos, lots of bokeh, and will get into macro photography soon.

I am going with a canon 100mm 2.8 macro, but am still on the fritz with what "walk around" to get

I am also keeping in mind that I will most likely replace my camera with a full body in the next year and a half.

I am flirting bw the tamron 17-50 and 28-75

I am not worried about the wide end bc I will prob purchase a lens next year specifically for landscape shots (interested in it but not on the top of my list)

it seems each has its advantage on a crop and full frame, but im still debating on what to pull the trigger on. i prob will not keep the rebel either if that helps and i suppose im ok with buying this lens with the intent of using it on a full frame, but until i get one it'll sit on my rebel

someone help please!

Either Tamron is a good choice, their two best lenses. I think most people like the 17-50mm on a cropped camera. I know I do but have owned the 28-75mm in the past (on a XT) and loved it too.

17-50 is a good lens but it is crop only.

Phil... why would you consider the 17-50 crop only?

Because it only work on 1.6x crop sensor.

Because it won't work on larger sensors such as the one in the 5D. As the OP is considering going full frame eventually then this wouldn't be the best choice.

+1 - I've been thinking about what and how I shoot when I'm out on the town or traveling, and the 24-105 would pair nicely with my 10-22.

I have the 17-50 and didn't even realize it was a digital-only lens. I think I knew but forgot! That's why I didn't put it together sorry! Long day at work!

How about 17-40L which isn't too bad for walk-around.

It can be your "wide" once you get your FF.

You can get 24-105L or 24-70L for your walk-around.
