I am eyeballing 2 Adorama FLASHPOINT II 620 studio lights and wonder if I should wait for the NYC photo show in late October. I never went to one and don't know if things would be cheaper there or if they would even have those lights there or not. Anybody been to the show and have an idea?

A lot of dealers give out coupons and discounts if you purchase the items from their booths. However, you will most likely have to lug your purchases around with you unless you buy from a vendor who has a store in NY which can ship (such as B&H).

It's still fun to go to see all the latest cameras, printers and gear.

Workshops and lectures cost money to attend, however you can get free admission to the showfloor by entering in the code "AdorPix" at

I attend every year and really don't recall Adorama offering anything special for the show. B&H is more aggressive as far as show specials go. Go to the show, pick up a B&H show catalog, browse, and enjoy. Just don't expect to find any real bargains on the floor.

As for the Flashpoint strobes, I think you'd be much better off ordering them over the Internet through search.live.com/cashback. The Adorama discount is 7.5% at the moment and the Flashpoint II 620a (the 120v version) ships free.

Here's a capture of the search.live page:

So, if you don't live in NY, bottom line price would be $185 each. If you're in NY, there's the sales tax hit to swallow.

B&H Photo and Video (external link) is a few blocks from the Javits convention center where the PhotoPlus Expo (external link) will be held in Manhattan. If you don't find what you want at the show, stroll over to B&H.

The expo will be held Oct. 23-25, (external link) by the way.

Dave,
thanks for the tip on the 7.5% off - it will save the tax (mostly) for me. Maybe I will just get them now.

As for B&H, I am going to wait on that MT-24 flash that I want to stick on the end of my MPE-65. Maybe I will get a bargain at the show, if not (like DC Fan said), I'll take a short walk to B&H. It's getting to be a regular stop whenever my wife and I go for a fun trip into NYC. We don't go on Saturdays anymore - why? - because B&H is closed on Saturday !!! She's good - will wait with me while I look at stuff she doesn't care too much about (but she does like the results) and doesn't give me grief - 'just buy it' she says. Life is good.

Quadrap,

that link looks like a great deal, but leaves me wondering about quality. Do you have that setup? I did some searching on the net and could only find 2 customer reviews - and they were both positive. has anyone else seen these?
