Challenge # 66 Selective Color

(Shamelessly borrowed from Wikipedia...)

"Selective color is a post-processing (external link) technique where most of a photo is converted to black and white, but some parts are left in color. A common application for selective color is portraiture (external link), to keep the eyes and sometimes the lips in color, against an otherwise black and white photograph. Small bits of color in an otherwise monochrome (external link) image immediately draw the viewer's eye. Landscape photography is another common application for this technique. Colorful leaves in an otherwise drab scene can breathe life into a photo."

I've taken a few ho-hum pics and by using selective color, made them interesting. Here is one sample:

Photo taken with Canon EOS 5D, f/8, 1/125, ISO 100, 93mm on the 24-105 Lens. 580 Camera Right and softbox camera left.

Postprocess-- Blend if RED command under advanced blending in PS (probably the most unused, yet powerful blending option in PS), then mask out a bit more of the tint using black and white filter. Tiny bit gaussian blur to give it a Vintage feel.

Dunno what others do, I pulled a color pic into Photoshop, made a B&W layer, and then erased the part where I wanted the color (from the background layer) to come through.
