There's a pretty pronounced halo around the roof line of the building from the HDR processing. Also, to my eyes, this is kind of borderline between a natural HDR and surreal because of the heavy color saturation. I've found that when there is not a dramatic sky, that less is more with landscape HDRs. I do like the image though, it reminds me of a picture postcard. You can certainly get some nice shots of Chicago from the tourboats on a nice day, and that day looks picture perfect.

yes, i can definitely notice the halo now, it was not as profound on the original, i wonder if the jpeg conversion had anything to do with it...Thanks for the cc...

I like all these, even though they aren't level and the first two have halos. :)

yes...the first 2 were taken from a moving boat...not the most stable shooting platform...

I agree with the halos...I need to work those out of the pictures...

Did you use Photomatix? Pretty easy to get them when using it. :)

Try the Light Smoothing Setting thing. The 5 Radio buttons. I don't seem to get halos at 4 or 5, and usually do see them at 3 or lower.

ok thanks...i have been experimenting with photomatix for a little while...I like the hyper saturation look in some photos, i think it really brings a surreal element to the photograph...Although I have yet to actually print one. I know that Photo on paper will look less bright, so i will have to see how they compare.

I will try the settings that you suggested and see what happens. Thanks for the input!

Mike

I have not printed one yet myself, but I am thinking that printing HDR on Metallic Paper is the way to go. Have you ever done that? I use a printing service and they sent samples of all their papers when I signed up with them and the metallic paper looks awesome.

Well...I was just informed that my avatar, was in violation of the forum rules...How sad that the very people that complained about my avatar are the reason why i put it up in the first place...

My opinion...people need to get over themselves...

thanks for the comments...I reworked the first photo after some mixed reviews. I actually really like the second one i did better...I will trry and get it posted up this week...

I took out some of the saturation and removed the haloing around the buildings...to get the first picture, i cropped out about an inch on the right side...are you thinking that was a bad idea?
