Hi folks,
Just wondered if anyone on here had ever had any dealings with a company called simplyelectronics in the UK
http://www.simplyelectronics.net/ (external link)
There's a lens on there which is a real bargain and I need to be confident they are ok to buy from?
Thanks
Ian

No entry on www.resellerratings.com (external link) but that's not to say they are safe. Remember if its too good to be true then it usually is. I think you should get some others who have shopped their safely before spending your money.

Which lens is it - have you considered buying from kerso here on this forum - his pricing is very competative.

I've seen their adverts on the TV. As far as I know, they're ok. A bit like Comet, although I've seen mixed reports.

run a google for "simply electronics review" and take a look at other people's experiences. If in doubt, pay with your credit card and issue a chargeback if you don't get your goods.

I can't advise one way or the other on the very quick search I did.

They're a HongKong based company and OK to deal with. All lenses are covered by international warranty so if there is a problem it will be covered in UK. I bought something from them but can't remember what it was. They used to sell on eBay but I gather they stopped because of the fees. (they still sell some things on eBay tho)

Should be fine.

Their list of Canon lenses is pretty comprehensive. but the prices look fairly unimpressive. I'd stick with Warehouse Express or 7DayShop.com if I had to pay those prices, better the devil you know....

I ordered a 15mm fisheye from them which they refused to ship because of incorrect pricing on Amazon. After complaining they allowed me £100 discount which i put towards an order for a 85L. After many delays (again due to incorrect pricing) the 85L was delivered damaged. This was returned for full refund (less p&p) .Stick with Kerso.

I'd already been advised to pm kerso so I did so about a few other bits and then found this and thought it was a very competitive price

It seems that lens is £9.05 more through Flash Camera, for that little I would still opt to go for Kerso than Simply Electronics.

I see this thread died last year. I've finally saved enough for the 17-55 2.8 IS and see Simply Electronics selling it at just under £700. Their price was about £30 more a couple of weeks ago.

Has anyone some recent experience please - and who/what is Kerso?

Kerso is a guy called Ian Kerr who sells camera gear through the forums and ebay.

He is a member on here so send him a PM and he will quote you a price. He buys the items in the US then ships to his sister in Fife who then sends them on.

All his items are covered by UK warranty and because they go via his sister there is no VAT to pay.

Everything in my sig came from him

Neil

Avoid Simply Electronics as they kept a mate of mine's money for a 50D for over 2 months when they told him it was in stock!!

They can only be dealt with via email. Ian Kerr (Kerso) is a member on here and Talk Photography and provides a top notch service (bought a 300mm f/2.8 L IS last year and a 500mm f/4 L IS this week)
