I took pictures for my church of a Vacation Bible School week long activity that went on. Few weeks after the event they asked me for a slideshow and a song to play during the slideshow...Can anyone name a song or two that can be played appropriate for this type of photos?

The photos are of children having fun and playing mostly.

The first thing to determine if the slide show is free or if parents have to pay for it. This is important because if you charge for it, you have to deal with copyright issues of the music you choose. If you give the show away, it may not be an issue and you can use anything, but I'm not 100% on that . If you can use copyrighted music, I would pick songs the kids like. If you have to stay with "free" music, I would use a soundtrack of the kids singing, if you have one from a past performance.

Well the right answer is RF music, or something that the church made its self. Another option which would keep you out of trouble is to offer to produce the slideshow minus the music which they could add themselves. There is a good chance you could also find some high quality recordings of hymns in the public domain such as "lord of the dance" or something like that.

Most people just really don't know that its wrong to use music they "own" for something like this just the same as they don't think twice about using pictures they find online how ever they want. My recommendation is to be careful with this and do the right thing especially as someone who is obviously making a serious business out of photography.

There is great music file in Mac OS X's iPhoto program. It definitely suits what you want.

Let me dig and see if I could find and upload it for you.

Thanks for the suggestions, and let me know what you find Khaled, thanks!

No, the slideshow will be presented during a church session. There will be over 500 people watching the slideshow (free of course). It most likely will be shown as the minister is announcing the next VBS for 2009 or something like that.

Okay,

They're not quite church-type files but I don't think religious people would mind them :)

Kirk Franklin - He Reigns/Awesome God
Silers Bald - Playing in the Creek
Ten Shekel Shirt - Meet with Me
Needtobreathe - Shine On

All crowd favorites that are included in every slide show at the camp where I've worked in the past...

Let me know if you need any help "finding" them :)

I didn't look too hard, but I don't think any of them offer royalty free music.

Thanks very much for the song names, I'll go home tonight and try to find them.

I'll let you know, jemeyer, if I can't find one.

I know guys from two of the bands, and having some idea of the others, I can't imagine any of them would mind in the least if their music were used one time for a VBS slideshow that was going to be shown, not sold, to a church congregation.

I realize that bands retain all rights to their songs... don't download them illegally... etc. - I agree with all of that and purchase all of the music I have.

However, I can't see why any of these guys wouldn't want exposure in a church setting... They aren't in it for the money...

But this is a photography forum, not music rights...

In summary, don't steal music, respect artists' rights, and love canon :)

This thread just gave me idea. I was asked by the Make-A-Wish Foundation to cover a "Quincieria" party for a 15 yr old girl. I think I'll also surprise the family with a slide show when I deliver the prints. Forgive me if I spelled it wrong, I'm not spanish.
