I took this pic the other day and am thinking of submiting it to a company photo contest. Just thought I would get your critique first and let me know your thoughts. I have a few others I may send in instead of this one but just thought I would get some feedback from you guys first before I decide. Thanks

I doubt that it would be as well received as you might think, because it really needs something to give it scale - such as a person.

I think the colors and even the lighting in this shot are really nice but I just really don't care for the perspective. Not to be rude, but to me this looks like a touristy snap shot like someone was passing by and said "oh...pretty..." and just aimed their camera at it without too much thought in regards to the composition.

It does look like a lovely location and would certainly be worth a re-shoot but I would certainly try a different perspective...maybe something closer to the ground instead of looking down at the scene. I would really take some time and scout this location out for a better shooting location.

Just my $.02,
Jim

I agree a lower perspective would be better, however there is no beach access. In fact this waterfall was on the cover of sunset magazine a few months back with almost the same exact viewpoint except in portait format.

gettting to the waterfall is very easy, your right it is exactly right off of Hwy 1 but not visible from the freeway. Here is a link to the state park Im sure driving directions can be found in there. I have a GPS navigation which comes in handy for finding places like this.

You can see it from the road right?

I saw this on the site:

NOTE: Portions of the day use area, including the McWay Falls Overlook trail, Partington Cove, and the environmental campsites will re-open for public use on Friday, July 25th. Parking in the main parking lot will be limited due to unstable slopes above one portion of the parking lot. All trails and areas on the east side of Highway 1 will remain closed until further notice.

Due to the fire and a sizeable rockslide, the ADA access ramp to the McWay Falls Overlook trail will be closed until further notice.

No, you cannot see anything from the road. As you aproach the waterfall area, there is a parking area on the left which is a small road which takes you into a palking lot. Then there is a short trail you have to walk down under the freeway and then you will see the falls below the freeway. There is also a small area on the right before the parking area that you can pull off on and view the falls from the highway level, but you must get out of your car to view the falls because you are above the falls looking down, just as my shot shows. All photos of this shot are taken from the highway level or from the trail level which is maybe 30 or 40 feet lower. I have seen none from beach level. Hope this helps

You can climb down to the beach, I have been down there before. It's a bit of a nasty climb but I managed to do it in sandals.
