Hi. I am planning a 6 week trip across the US/Peru/Thailand and will be shooting 100% raw. I currently have an 8 gb III CF card but as it only holds a little over 600 shots i'm thinking i'll need an alternative storage mechanism to avoid running out of space.

I am hoping some of you can give me some advice on what my options would be.. I'm currently thinking i just go and buy another 8gb III CF but even then, would 2 of them be enough? I have a few Ipods im taking with me, is there a way i can use them as storage? are there any adaptors for them that can let me connect a CF card up to them for backing up photos?

Are there any other affordable storage solutions?

Last time i went travelling for a few months i only had a simple P&S camera and would just stop in at various camera stores to save my photos to cd.. but i don't know if that would be an option with the increased size of raw files.. do they do dvd backup now?

any help would be awesome! thanks :)

Memory cards are cheap...buy several and take with you...they are still the smallest and easiest storage media...

in 10 days on our last trip i shot almost 60 gigs of files. i had with me 44 gigs of cards and a 120-gig epson p3000 storage/viewing device.

next time i'll have enough cards so that i won't have to format any until i'm at home at my desk, and i'll have a second copy of everything on a storage device or laptop.

Wow that's a lot of photos! i think my partner would be PISSED if i took that many photos.. she's not really into photography too much... and i told her i'd make her carry my equipment so she could feel like she was involved!!

I've done a bit of research and i think i'll go look at the colorspace units.. theyre around $250-$300 at a store near here for an 80 gig which i hope will suit my needs :)

I would invest in a laptop, my choice would be a refurb or used MacBook 13.3" and then get a external HDD to backup to..

i have a 13.3" macbook.. i was actually considering taking it along... but then i'll mostly be backpacking and living out of a suitcase for 6 weeks including doing the 4 day inca trail to machu picchu so im not sure if a laptop is the answer... i'm thinking i might have to bite the bullet and invest $$ in portable storage.. buying additional CF cards aint going to cut it. Thanks for the advice though :)

Use a laptop and some DVD-Rs, that way you'll still have 2 copies, DVDs are much cheaper that memory cards, once you have a laptop.

Take tha laptop!

put it in a Pelican case with the rest of your gear, and fear no bad conditions!
