Hi all - this is slightly off the topic, but I want to make a slide show of my G3 digital photos, with a musical background for my rellies to play on their TV, through their DVD. What is a good software program I could use?

I have Nero 5. That didn't seem to work. I looked at a trial version of Ulead CD & Picture 3 - it seemed a bit clunky and not all that cheap...

Any suggestions would be welcome!
Cheers

VCDEasy (external link) is a very good program. However, it only makes VCDs and SVCDs. Not nearly as bloated as Ulead's DVD Picture Show which makes VCDs, SVCDs and DVDs out of your photos. Nero 6.x also does slide shows with music but not as feature rich as the others.

Hi MrsMac, I have tried many, but this was recommended to me about 10 days ago.

I needed the prog with the MPeg2 plug in at $49.99. IT REALLY WORKS.

I took 130 shots of my friends Golden Wedding Celebration. I have added them and added music. It gives the full length (in minutes) of the slideshow and you then add tracks to be as near as possible to the slideshow length. Click on Automate and the music matches to the very end of the slideshow.

I also have nero and I chose use nero drivers and then "start" to burn. It plays on our tv and another friends through the dvd player.

I should say you need to choose dvd (it gives options for svcds and vcds).

BTW you can download a full evaluation copy. I burned mine to DVD rewriteable discs to make sure it was ok and would play on the tv.

You still get "Evaluation copy" across it until you pay, but it is worth giving it a try. The transitions and panning are excellent.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for your comments. I downloaded ProShop Gold (evaluation copy) and had lots of problems. After some thinking (that seems difficult at times!) I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and wonder of wonders - it works!

I haven't got a DVD writer yet (but plan to do some in the next few months).

Many thanks
Cheers

I've been impressed with Microsoft's PhotoStory 3:
http://www.microsoft.com …y/photostory/default.mspx (external link)
It's free, if you have a valid copy of Windows XP.
It does not burn to DVD, so you'd need a different program to encode the WMA output into MPEG.

What I like about Photo Story is its ability to create a video by panning and zooming on the images you supply. You can specify where it pans/zooms from/to, or let it decide. Can add a lot of interest for folks whose eyes tend to glaze over 5 minutes into a stationary slide show.

I've used Digital Photo Slide Show

http://www.digitalphotoslideshow.com/ (external link)

whihc isn't terribly sophisticated when it comes to linking music, but it's cheap and has a long evaluation period. It generates files that control the sequence and transition effects you want; you then burn these onto a CD together with your images and the slide show will auto run in any PC.

Is there a photo album software allowing user to play the slide show on the other computers on the LAN?

There are several PCs on the LAN in my house. I have put all the pictures in the slave drive and crated several slide show albums by using Polyview, the photo album software, on PC No. 1 in the office.

The PC No. 2 is connected to HDTV in the living room. If I want to watch the slide show of the pictures stored in the slave drive on PC No. 1, I have to re-create all the slide show albums from the scratch on PC No. 2. It is a duplicated work. Is there any slide show software allowing me to use the same slide show scripts created on PC No. 1 to play on PC No. 2?

As far as I know, there isn't--and that's a huge hole. I think there would be a lot of demand for a multiple-client, central-server photo management package aimed at a home user. There are Enterprise class packages for commercial photo shops, but they come with an enterprise class price tag...

You might check ThumbsPlus--I believe they were working on supporting a MySQL database.

Also, for a free package, Picasa is hard to beat:

They were purchased by Google, and are now freeware. Very fast product.

Try www.picasa.com (external link) for their free software. Just like iPhoto for the Mac.

I have been using Ulead PictureShow for 2 years now and it's great. I'm now using the current version. You can assemble photo slideshows w/music as well as videos (mpeg, avi, etc.) on the same VCD or DVD that plays in most new DVD players.
