The Pleasure Pier at Southend-on-Sea in the UK is the longest in the world at 1.34 miles, stretching out into the River Thames Estuary...

...and it has it's own railway... (technically an electric tramway..)

1. From the landside terminal looking "out to sea" !

That's awesome! What's at the end of the track? I googled it but couldn't find a good answer.

A LifeBoat Station...

The rail line stops short about 1/8 mile from the end...

If you're in to trains, and you're visiting the UK, you might want to check-out UK Heritage Railways... (external link)

It's a very good window to most of the heritage groups around...

FWIW, the pier @ Naval Weapons Station Earle in Leonardo NJ, extends 2.2 miles into Sandy Hook Bay, just south of NYC ;)
