Is was Victorian invention. A pier designed for enjoyment (eating candyfloss, games of chance, fishing, picking pockets etc) , rather than commercial use (loading/unloading cargo). When the tide is in, it gives you the opportunity to walk above the waves with an air of wonderment......or at Southport it gets you a couple of hundred yards closer to the sea (which is famously about 300 miles from the shore....). Heh, that made me laugh! So true. I remember driving on Southport sands before I had a licence!!! Sheryl

Sep 08, 2008 05:12 | #12 Hi Guys; dazzlebea wrote in post #6246270 Were you on part of that pier too? YES: At the end, the pier has 90 degree turn and houses a lifeboat station with a viewing platform on top... I was on there... You can just about make out the end of the pier from shot 1 in this thread... [Same as the link below...] NO: "Candyfloss" is the REAL name, and what you guys call "Cotton Candy" SacMac wrote in post #6248270 Great picture of quite a landmark, which is only just down the road from me. Thanks for sharing ![]() Many thanks... I also posted some pix of the railway on the pier here... Comments & Criticisms ALWAYS welcome...
