I'm a wedding photographer and have been trying to set up second lighting at my wedding receptions. So, I have a Pocketwizard connected to Q-Flash and/or Photogenic at the reception. Then, on camera, I have Pocketwizard connected to a Canon shutter-release cable and my 550EX set into the hotshoe.

THe problem: When I have this set-up in place, when I trigger the shutter, the Q-Flash or Photogenic is going off either slightly after or slightly before the shutter opens. I can see the secondary flash fire but it is not showing up in the image. Only the 550EX is showing.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of set-up? I'm not figuring it out.

Thanks, Tom

Never worked with a Q-Flash, but I'll take a stab.
Make sure your PW cable is plugged into the "both" port.
Start at 1/250th and go down until you see the other strobe fire (maybe a shutter speed issue?).
Put a little pressure on the PW cable connection to the side of the camera when you shoot. The Connection there isn't very reliable.

Your photogenic strobe won't sync at 1/250 sec. At least mine won't.

Do you not want to use the PC socket? My understanding is that you use the shutter release cable to well, release the shutter; such as in a remote setup. At least that is what I use it for. Also, are you wizards the Multi Max version? If so, did you put a delay on them somehow?

Why do you have the Tx unit connected to the shutter release cable? That's the reason your lights aren't syncing up. They are firing as soon as you press the shutter release button but before the curtains are fully open. As Big Jon suggested, the Tx unit should be connected to the PC port of the camera.
