Anyone have this done recently, and if so how much does it cost (USA)?

I believe its about $180 plus shipping, but I can check for you next week. I'm not sure if all of the cameras are the same price, but I believe so because it's just a labor charge.

That sounds about what I was expecting but if you do find out for sure and report back that'd be excellent.

Any update on this, JD? I called support but, as expected, they simply told me "you must send it in, we do not give estimates."

I sent my Mark II to the service center Irvine back in May. Here is the breakdown of what it cost me.

Labor: $180.00
Tax: $17.55
Shipping: $15.00
Total: $212.55

What does this do? Focus faster? More accurate?

Yes, getting your camera calibrated will help it focus faster. I bought a second hand Mark II to use as a backup and I noticed it didn't focus as quick as my Mark IIN. I sent it in to Canon and now I both cameras focus exactly the same.

My bill was $212 dead even, including taxes & shipping. AF calibration & cleaning.

I also had them replace the shutter buttons because they lost their half-press. That was a gimme since I insisted on it - with under 23,000 sweeps of my camera's shutter, the buttons shouldn't go bad. Apparently they don't waste time on individual components, as the entire top end was replaced. That meant new function buttons (thus new seals), new hot shoe, new status LCD, new dial, etc. The vertical release was also replaced even though I didn't request it specifically...apparently it's a drop-in type module because that entire corner is new. It doesn't feel any different but the main button is definitely fresh. Oddly enough, they glued the original rubber back on.

And of course they cleaned the sensor as usual.
