Anyone seen these lights before?

I ran across these on my local Craigslist today.

I like the simplicity of them: 4-tubes, four on off switches. Price seems a little high for a used set, but I can't find anything like it online anywhere to compare them too.

Just go to home depot and build a set yourself and save about $400.

I personally wouldnt buy them for that price.

Agreed on the DIY angle.

I've seen the LowePro type (straight tube fluorescent) lights - which also seem like a good DIY project candidate.

I'm just curious who makes/markets this particular type of configuration.

Let me know when you build a set of lights for $50 that are 5200K balanced and each head is adjustable by four stops. Oh and don't forget to add a a second single bulb head with barn doors on a small boom for a hair light and four stands and umbrellas.

Looks like a Westcott Spyderlight type of setup. Wescott spyderlights are spendy.

don't get taken in by the hype. It is adjustable by by 1/4 power (not stop) increments because there is a simple switch for each bulb - two on = 1/2 power. And just look in any big box and you can find daylight balanced compact flourescent bulbs.

Barndoors may be another story to buy at the big box, but they themselves are not worth $450.

The CL listing is for four light heads, four stands, and four umbrellas. So $112.50 per complete unit. Considering it would take at least $40-$50 in materials and another 1-2 hours per unit to construct, $450 for everything is still a little high, but does start sounding a little more reasonable.

I'm trying to work a partial trade out for a lens to get the cash-out-of-pocket down a little. I think these would be terrific for shooting school portraits, which I do a couple of times a year.
