Wacom tablet?

I am just starting to post process my pictures and I am finding that the mouse it very discouraging. I found one of these at a local store with elements 6, corel, and a light retouching program. Hoave any of you found that one of these ( http://www.bhphotovide​o.com …Intuos3_Platinu​m_4_x.html ) has helped you a lot in pp? Is 4x6 a big enough working area? Thanks for your help.

For retouching there's nothing better. When I'm in photoshop I almost never touch the mouse, it's so intuitive using the pen and tablet.
It may take a little getting accustom to it but stick with it. Once you start using one you'll never go back to a mouse.
I have a 9x12 intuos 2 which is great.
I believe my first was a 6x9 which was also good.
The 4x6 is a little small for me but a fairly inexpensive to see if you'll like it before you take the plunge for one of the bigger ones.

I have a 6x11 Intuos 3 and love it. My brother uses a 4x6 Graphire tablet from Wacom and has had no complaints. He was using it on a 12 inch Powerbook and just upgraded to a 24inch imac and he says it works fine. I would imagine a larger tablet would work better for such a larger screen though.

If you are unsure, you might want to check out one of the Wacom Bamboo tablets to start with, they are less expensive and basically do the same thing. Just look around for some reviews on them first.

Thanks for your advise. The main reason that I really never considered the bamboo is the controls are on the side. The intuos 3 also comes with some software that can be added to my elements 6 that may come in handy.
I never felt the need to post process until I joined this forum. I see some of these threads though were people fix photos for other people and it just blows my mind. I would love to be able to do the to some of mine.

Thanks, I may want to upgrade later but I think that this one would be good to start with. I hope it is not to hard to get use to but your comment is very reassuring that it will be worth it in the end.

Wacom tablets have enough res for the smallest of tablets to upscale to a high res

the larger the tablet the more control you have over the cursor..

Thanks for the link. I looked at the forum a little. I will have to look more when I have some time, it seems very helpful. I will not have to use it for drawing just a little touch up. However if I ever need to i am covered. I was a painter so I have a good steady hand and can draw pretty well.

I've been using a 6x8 Intuos 3 and can't image working on images in PS without it. The programable 5 button mouse, pen, and buttons on each side the tablet improve the convenience of the pen-tablet. I highly recommend it.
