Sharing a few of my favorite shots so far this season. Age group is 6-8. My sons team is in the white. Sorry to say non of my son though. I never seem to get good shots of my own kids.
CC always welcome.
All shot with the 40D, 70-200mm F/4L, AV mode with Ap set to F/4. ISOs should all be 200. SS will vary.

Looking at these again, does his hand in #3 look out of focus?
Is this shot better?

More eye contact here, but less "action" then the first. Both are nice.
Kids move love the uniforms, they look cool.

Great shots. I'm partial to this age group too.. I have a 7 & 8 year old playing.
Hoping to have some good shots today, if we dont get rained out.

(btw, I love the b&w at the end of game shot.)

We always have the best uniforms... all stitched numbers. Sometimes I hate the white though.

Thanks Joe.

Thanks. It's easier to capture this age. I have a 13 yr old too who plays.
Our games were rained out today. Bummer.

Sounds like our kids are pretty much the same age then. I too have a 13 yr old.
(plays JV)
Its looking like a rain-out for us too. :(

Carol,

Some nice shots here. It would help to number them.

Number 3 might just be that his hand is outside the Depth of Focus for a lens at f/4.0. I find the wacky horizon on number 4 to be too distracting. I don't get number 5 - the tackle is OOF and from the back, both not good. And if you're trying to get "Perez", he's way behind the play and the shot is from his back.

At this age level (and actually, at all age levels) faces rule - always try to get faces in your shots. It's the rare action capture that works without a part of one of the player's face.

Thanks for sharing.

How do you number the shots?

Thank you so much Dennis. I always enjoy your posts, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
You are right, my intent was #31. Mom asked me to get shots. He plays the line and it's hard to get shots of him. I had asked in some other groups if they thought this photo was a keeper or a tosser cuz I was leaning more towards tossing. Many said to keep it. Mom ended up loving it. Moms usually only see the fact their kiddo is in the shot lol. My intention was to get him with the tackle being OOF but you are right, he is not close enough to the action to make it 'mean' anything.

I have access to the sidelines, where do you think I should be standing? Say I am trying to capture offense, where should I be standing? How about defense?

I have no idea why I went for the tilt on #4. I'll leave that out next time ;)
Thanks again for your input!

Well, depending on how long of a lens you have, the endzone to 20 yard lin are ideal, with the back of the endzone being perfect.

Thanks. I suppose that info would have been helpful to include. I have a 70-200mm F/4L. I also have a 1.4x extender. I have only used it once ...and that was during baseball season. I wasn't fully impressed so I have never used it after that. I know I need more reach for football so I am hoping to have a nice sunny day to test it out again.
