What setting do you use? Just got my 40D, been trying different ones and wondered what everyone else used.

Why bother unless you shoot at the olympics or some other sports venue.

Not just sports but also for airshows, or even for those inferior small feathered things that fly....

I have mine on 2.

Number 3. My camera has the battery grip, so I have also switched the operation of the AF-ON and * buttons (C.Fn IV 2 - enable). This overcomes the problem of the grip not having an AF-ON button. Therefore, it does not matter how I hold the camera (i.e. landscape or portrait format), I can use the * button to activate the focus system.

CFn IV - 1 - 2

Permits me to set my point of focus independently of my point of metering (spot), and to have the shutter button not cause my focus distance to shift when I press it fully to take the shot. I can lock exposure as well to a predetermined point, by pressing the * button before pressing the shutter button fully. This provides me total independence of the three major functions...if I wanted one button to control three things, I would use a point and shoot!

I think it's great having focus and metering separate. Right now I'm using IV-1-2 although I was thinking of trying out IV-1-3 also.

i think option 3 is cool, you can MF your lens without the camera always trying to fight you for what it thinks should be in focus.

It has absolutely nothing to do with sports or action. It is great for those but the point of it is to seperate the shutter from focusing.

I use set C.Fn IV-1 to 2 and C.Fn IV-2 to 1. It's the first thing I change when I get a camera. I wouldn't buy a camera now that didn't have this feature.

I have my 40D set to 2 and love the AF being separate from the shutter button. Seems really weird when I use my 30D and having to use the shutter button to focus.

Wow, you couldn't seperate them on the 30D? You could on the 20D.

I don't really get setting #2. if you have it on setting #2, then if you press AF on, it meters...why have the half press of the shutter also meter?

maybe its because i don't get the difference between metering and metering start?
