I am going to be in a situation very soon where I really need a monopod, but on such short notice I cant order one and have it here in time, and also I do not have the money to order one.

This looked like I cheep solution but what I need to know is do you think it will work until I can get a better one? And will it support my gear (listed below)?

From your gear list, it looks just fine. If you don't have the money. But you have a great tripod, will a monopod really make that much difference. Could I suggest something like the

I'm thinking of getting one of these actually.

Yes and yes. I took a super el-cheapo monopod to Africa in June, used it with a lot heavier gear than you have, and it was fine.

I have seen those and I want one of those too. But I really just need a monopod because I need to travel light number one (will be hiking so tripod may not be best choice) and I also want something that comes from my level to the ground.

Great to know I am not alone in the cheep monopod usage. I am going to get a monfrotto monopod later on, but like I said I dont have the time or money to get it here when I need it, and Best buy is right down the street. ( There are NO CAMERA STORES where I live!!! )

Bring your setup to Best Buy

Bring your heaviest camera/lens setup to Best Buy and place it on the monopod. See if the monopod is sturdy enough to hold it. See if the clamps keep the legs extended where you want them. If the pod does these two things - it should be fine. Monopods are not exactly rocket science technology - they are fairly simple things.

I agree. I'm guessing you're going to be toting that 40, grip and 300mm on this thing. You better give it a test run at BB.

Well, I bought and tested the monopod. It is a very incredible monopod for the money. Now I know, as someone stated above, monopods are not that hard to understand or use or shop for. But I have had some very cheep monopods in the past that just do not work. They feel cheep, dont clamp, etc. But this monopod is very well made and I will put myself on the line here and even say that I feel like it is a professional monopod when holding and using it. I havent really used it in a "photo shoot" enviroment. But it seems to be very nice and already exceeds my expectations based on price range.

Very interesting! I think I'll wander on down to BB and check it out.

I see the description says it comes with a ball head, but the picture doesn't show one. Does it?

No, the ball head did not come with it. I saw that in the disciption as well and it is nowhere to be found. I asked the sales representative about that as well and they acted like they had never seen the thing before... Bad thing about large retail stores. If anyone finds out some answer to this mystery please tell me.

Probably doesn't matter much. I've never used a monopod, but seems to me a ball head is sorta pointless...
