Can i use Lightroom 2 with Photoshop CS2?

I know that CS2 does not recognize my RAW files from the 40D.

I know that Lightroom 2 can.

Is it possible to use Lightroom2 to open RAW files then edit them with CS2? Or do I have to suck it up and upgrade to CS3?

Thanks.

Yes, as long as you use LR to run the conversion (export), it'll work fine.

Won't help in this case I think (40D)

You can downloa the latest DNG converter.
Any DNG will open fine in ACR 3.7.

It works fine. In the develop module, there is a menu item under Photo that is "edit in photoshop CS2". When you install lightroom, it automatically adds this menu item if it detects a version of photoshop. You then set your export options in preferences, I think, mine are 16 bit tiff in sRGB. In CS2, you edit the tiff file, and when you are done and save the image, it adds itself to your lightroom catalog as a tiff that is stacked on your raw file. No problem with 40D raw files, as they are converted prior to going to CS2

I had some odd problems exporting TIFFs to CS2 from Lightroom2. CS2 opens and edits the files fine, but when trying to save as JPEG I get something like an "Internal program error" in CS2 and it won't save. I've found I can get round it by exporting from lightroom with "minimise exif data" (or is it "minimise metadata"? - I'm not at my own computer!) checked.

I've had that as well. Haven't tried the "minimise metadata" trick.

Did you do local adjustments?

Sometimes "save for web" in PSCS2 does work when "Save as" doesn't.
I've also had it happen with LR 1.4.

I may have done local adjustments - I managed to save a few JPEGs before the problem occurred, so that seems to make sense.

Answering my own posts now...

The issue of saving as JPEG in CS2 is discussed HERE (external link) and shows another solution, besides the 'minimise metadata' trick.

That's pretty sad...

Good find though.
