1. I have a Minolta X9 SLR w/kit lens, but obviously my collection of Canon AF lenses do not work, so I'd like to find a EOS film camera. It looks like there are alot of different models out there. Is there a page with a summary of the history of EOS cameras? I'd like to find something decent, like an ELAN or something "semi-pro". Keep in mind I'd like to possibly put a grip on it as well. I'd like to do this all at minimal cost (ie ebay) as I'll just shoot occationally for fun.

2. Film- I know there is lots of topics on what film is the best etc.. but what about regular Kodak and Fugi that you can buy at Walmart? I have a couple rolls of Kodak Ultramax 400 that isn't expired yet. Also- what happens to expired film? I was at a pawn shop and there was a bin of expired Kodak.. would I be wasting my money to develope that stuff?

3. Would I run into problems using my Sigma 10-20mm on 35mm?

Depends on how far out of date it is & how it's been stored (heat)? B&W will last longer than color.
See if you can buy matching emulsion numbers. Ask him if he'll hold them while you buy & check out one roll, which is not a guarantee the the rest will match it.

Walmart film probably turns over fast enough that you wouldn't have any problems with it.

Thank for the input so far.

Does anyone know of a website with a rundown on the different EOS-35mm cameras? Like how does an ELAN fit with a EOS 620 etc. With digital it's real simple.. xxxD/xxD/5D/1D(s).

thanks guys

There's been several threads about this lately. I just bought an ElanII off "the bay" for about 42US.

Here's one:

some more

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=556316

These pages have some great info:

You have to do your research. There's a page how in one owners opinion, the Elan7 is a "step back" from the ElanII:

http://photonotes.org/reviews/eos-elan-7/ (external link)

and some downsides to the A2e

http://photonotes.org/reviews/5-50-30/ (external link)

One big **** I have about the ElanII, a pretty much "higher end" camera in it's day, is that it has no PC sync socket. However, You can buy "hot shoe" adapters (and I did) of the 'bay to rectify that problem. So far as remote shutter, the ElanII has the same min-phone plug as the Rebel/ Xt series.

It also sounds like that if you want to do some IR shooting, many of the EOS models have problems with this. I probably never will

Thanks for the links! :)

I'm gonna compare the midrange models and see what I can get for cheap, something good with a thumb dial in the back. I don't want to cheap out when they are so inexpensive to begin with!

I definatly won't be shooting more then 1fps I just want some good features, good AF and a good built body (like a xxD).

I'll keep you all posted if I buy anything soon. :)

I found a EOS Elan for around $40 that has had the shutter serviced, comes with manual and strap. Good deal?

your Sigma 10-20 won't work with the film camera. That lens is designed for the Aps-c sensor sized DSLR.

Well that's fine. I just bought the ELAN off ebay. Came to $46 shipped. My Sigma 24-60 should be plenty wide on 35mm (15-38mm on a 1.6x crop camera based on my math).
