The Search for My Perfect Lens: HELP!

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie photographer, but I am fascinated with photographing people, specifically in low-light situations like at concerts and at night. I have an 85mm lens and a 28-135 zoom lens, but neither of them are exactly what I want or need. I need a lens that will give me sharp images in low lighting, with a flash or not. Usually I am anywhere from 5 feet to 15 feet from a person or people when I shoot.

Am I just missing something here?

Cheers!

Five to fifteen feet? Perhaps you should consider a wider fast prime? The zoom definitely isn't fast enough, and the prime is probably a bit too long for such close photography:
50mm f/1.4
30mm f/1.4 (sigma)
35 f/1.4L
24mm f/1.4L

5 to 15 feet is pretty close, you might need a wide zoom and a good flash. The tokina 12-24 is a great lens..

When I shoot bands/indoor stuff, I rely heavily on my Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. Anything along those lines (Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Canon 17-55 f/2.8) should hit the spot for what you're looking for.
