I need your help.

I have had a 430EX for about a year, thinking it would be all I need. Decided recently it's not, so I picked up a second hand 580EXII. Very happy with it, and have even taken some muck around shots with 580 as master and 430 as slave and like the possibilities.

Since I have been in trouble with my fiance lately for spending too much money on camera gear, I haven't told her about the new flash yet. I have just started using it and kind of hide the 430. So far, she hasn't noticed that the black flash on my camera is different at all. But I'm sure she will notice if there's two instead of one!

Anyway, my dilemma is this - who long do you think I should leave it until I buy another 580EXII

I think you should buy another 580EX II immediately.

Oh, and sell your fiance. If your getting trouble before your marriage it will only get worse.

:) I exaggerate her just a little. But seriously, she had used the 430 on my camera before, and this Saturday we were at a party and she used my camera with the 580 and didn't even notice the difference. I'll tell her soon. After the wedding. Might go into a camera shop alone on our honeymoon with the 430 hidden, wait in there a while, and walk out with it and say I got it for a bargain price from their discount bin or something. :)

Why not wait until after the divorce settlement. It'll only be a few months!;)

I tried retiring, but gave it up - it's a dead end

Don't contribute to the divorce rate statistic. Tell her about it and she will not agree with it but will accept it. Then you need to involve her with every purchase you make from here on out. Don't let photography kill your engagement or marriage... let it happen naturally :)
