so my cactus triggers wont fire over 1/200s. so my question to you is:
if i buy a pair of PW's/AB's will they be able to sync my sb-24 and 430ex with my 40D at speeds over 1/250s?

if yes, do the PW's sync faster than the AlienBees?

Thanks, and sorry if this is a dumb question.

There have been two threads on this today, I suggest you do some reading. 1/125th is the best you can reasonably hope for with any radio trigger. When using strobes in a studio shutter speed is mostly irrelevant anyway. Sync speeds are different between speedlites and studio units - read your manual.

You can NEVER use any conventional flash source with shutter speeds faster than the "max sync speed" of the camera when triggering with conventional radio slaves or even when using a standard two-conductor sync cable. That's because at shutter speeds faster than the "max sync speed", the focal-plane shutter is never fully open.

Some triggering methods do not work as quickly as a hard-wired sync cable, and slower shutter speeds are required because of a small delay time in the sync circuit.

"High Speed Sync" is something that Canon Speedlites can do when coupled to certain Canon cameras. This, however, is a completely different kind of flash operation. To use a Speedlite with a shutter speed of, for example, 1/1000 second, the Speedlite actually emits a series of extremely short pulses of light. Effectively the Speedlite becomes a continuous light source. This is useful in very few situations, though flash fill in bright light situations can be one.

Not so. PW units can easily do 1/250 if that's the max sync speed of the camera. And a PW MultiMax can do 1/500 if the camera can handle it.

1/125th is the safe speed, good gear does better.

Yes, that I can agree with but that's a far cry from your previous statement of "1/125th is the best you can reasonably hope for with any radio trigger." ;)

Yeah that's not correct. Fairly sure the manual says sync with studio strobes won't be as good as with a speedlite, but shutter speed is mostly irrelevant anyway.
