What if the next 5D (3D / 7D) would look like this?

Why couldn't Canon bring out a new camera with a built in portrait grip, but which would not be as tall as the 1D? I played around in photoshop and came up with this... wouldn't it be nice?

Hey I'd buy that for a dollar. Nice chop and it would be nice if they offered that setup

I doubt that a grip that stubby would be comfortable to hold. Consider that the XXD + Grip is about the same height as the 1D. There's more to it than just having a grip...your fingers have to go somewhere.

No. Throw's the 5D's portability right out the window.

id love a built in grip, since gripping my 20d SLRs without a vertical grip are just akward to hold.

No. One of the biggest reasons I want the 5d-II is the size vs my 1d-III, otherwise I'd save my pennies for a 1Ds-II(or III).

I would love to get a 1D the size of the 40D/5D exactly for portability. I love the feature set of the 1D and the performance but the body size is just not conducive to portability especially while packing.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I would only like it if it weighs the same or less than the current 5D.

Weight can be an issue when you have 2 bodies and 2 lenses (including 70-200 2.8 IS) on your back all day.

10 pounds on my back does not feel good.

10lbs? Try 45. Through Dulles International Airport, then through Cancun International Airport 3 hours later. While pulling a suitcase. :D

Pulling my pelican 1510 is hardly work compared to a 5D and 40D on my back with 2 huge ass lenses ALL DAY!

that pic shows theres no space on the grip between the grip and the lens... every time you autofocused, it would switch to full time manual or something cos of your fingers giving too much resistance

That's the price you pay for being so talented.

You are a true "heavyweight!":)

I wish.

I was asked to shoot another one in Jamaica...but they wanted to lowball me into oblivion. Needless to say, I haven't heard back since responding that my pricing is firm.

I like it. I hope it comes with an integrated grip! Thanks for sharing.
