I have seen the Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen while living on my houseboat on the Tennessee River below Paducah. They are quite a sight, but now that I've seen the American Queen, they are noticeably shorter. Those two were all steam though.

Sep 10, 2008 05:18 | #18 Thanks for looking Julian. The green stuff is duckweed and probably the least icky stuff in that water. You still are not supposed to eat the fish you catch in the Mississippi, although people do. Right now, the water level is way down from normal and moving slow, which is why the duckweed can grow here I guess. Normally the water is moving faster and the stuff is just swept downstream. A few miles downstream, where I took those shots of the fishing hole the other day, the duckweed can cover the whole channel. It's good for the environment though, the ducks love it and it puts out an ingredible amount of oxygen and multiplies fast. Mitch- ____...^.^...____
