Hi there, does anyone have any comments on close up filters, im looking at buying a macro lens later on but for the time being i thought i would take a look at these, what do people think, theres lots of these for sale on a certain auction site although straight from hong kong and the brands dont look very recognisable

Anyway, id like to see what u think

I have used them before, the Canon in particular, but in my experience and opinion it is A LOT better to just save your money and get a dedicated macro lens. IMO even an extension tube set is better.

I don't shoot much macro, but what little I have, I've been happy with the Canon 500D Close-up lens. Of my lenses, I've gotten the best results with the 500D attached to the 18-55mm kit lens.

It's not a replacement for a true macro lens, but for a fraction of the cost it is a fun little experiment.

Here are a couple examples (click for Flickr)
