I am trying to get in on the 'Owl' action . . . but mine is not as good as some . . . However it is my first 'owl hunt' and so at least I found one. I hope I named it right, I am not up on my owls 'cept for barn ones.

Taken with Canon 20D and Sigma BigMa 50-500 @500.

LOL, thank you Larry. I am not near as good as the resident 'experts' but I am trying to learn from them. I like the forum best because it gives me ideas and challenges to do. I would have never went and found this owl had it not been for the other 'guys.' Part of it for me is that they are so close to me, living out in the sticks, we have critters . . . and not so many people yet.

Thanks again . . .

I'm soooo jealous. Long-eared Owl maybe?

I’m jealous too. You have there a Great Horned Owl. I tried all summer to get a shot of a pair raising two young in the woods near our cabin. They are mostly nocturnal hunters and I would only see them after dusk and then hear them calling late into the night. They are silent fliers and are able to navigate through thick woods in almost complete darkness. It could be that winter's hunger has extended this guy’s hours into daylight. Wonderful shot.
