U11 Girls Soccer

After shooting soccer for a year and being less than happy with my shots, I started shooting at f/3.2 (instead of f/2.8 ) and am a lot happier with the first shots this year.

It was noon, the sun was bright... directly overhead. In the past I had shot wide open at 2.8 and most of my shots were out of focus. Many more keepers at f/3.2

Hey Stinky (and fellow Grotonian) that red Delta uniform is a little easier to deal with than our G-D (Groton Dunstable ) Maroon isn't it!

If I recall, you have the Canon f/2.8 70-200 IS correct? It is possible that you need calibration? I am very happy with mine wide open. I have an ISO 12233 resolution test chart if you want to borrow and set up an experiment to test your camera/lens. It is straight forward to do.

Your daughter needs some cleats like my son's (U12) to complete her "ensemble"!

I wouldn't let my girls play town soccer because I cannot shoot them with their maroon shirts.

I'll let you know about the calibration... I'm going to try again this weekend at f/2.8.

My girls wanted pink cleats. I told them they had to be *really* good to get away with wearing something like that, especially with a club team.

Nice shots. Need to fix the horizons and they're a little dark. I know how hard it is to shoot with a high bright sun, but there are a few things to do to help get the faces out of the shadows a little.

I'm guessing you were shooting in Av mode? If so, I would go to manual and set the exposure to get a little more lightness to the faces, you'll blow out some whites but it's all about the faces.

Shooting manual is easy when the light is constant, whether sunny and bright or overcast etc...

I shoot all jpegs and I set the WB to sunny usually unless it's REALLY overcast. At least that way all the images have consistant color.
