This is a photo of my granddaughter Bailey. I tried to convert it to black and white and kind of like that better but was wondering if anyone can tell me how to do a better job of converting it to black and white. Or if you all like it in color. Which one?

There both great. Very adorable subject. I like the BW better too, and don't see anything wrong with the conversion.

She is a cutie, and you captures her very well! I like the color better. Just need some light and contrast on her face. I also added some saturation, slight vignetting, and sharpened eyes and lips.

I love the B/W but I'm sort of a color freak. I LOVE color. If the color version had a bit more pop (it looks somewhat flat), I would have been all over that version.

The picture as a whole is GREAT!!! The composition and pose are very artistic. You may get dinged on the elbow being chopped and part of the hand, but I don't have a problem with it. I went straight to the eyes and precious little face.

I agree with the comment about the chopped off elbow, but otherwise I love this shot. With a face like that, how can you go wrong?

The b&w looks great. Here's my take on the color version.

I just got my first pair of glasses that I didn't think I needed. I apologize to anybody in the past year that I said their pictures were out of focus lol.

Locky, Can you tell me how you made those conversions to that photo so that I can do that to my full size file? Thank you all for the beautiful comments and for the color conversions. It really shows me how flat it was to begin with. Now I just need to learn how to bump it up. Thanks

If I remember correctly I sharpened, Curves, Brightness and Saturation. If you want to you can email me the original and I can edit for you.

Beautiful subject - and a great photo. How did you do the B&W conversion? Did you simply click the "greyscale" button, or did you "desaturate". The latter method (+ a little tweak in levels) should give a little better contrast, which I think its lacking.

Cute picture. Looks like she a fashion model with the pose. $$$ She could be a model for kids clothes like Target.

TeeJay, I actually played with the levels a little, bumped up the contrast, then hit desaturate. Maybeit needs a little more desaturate. Thanks for all the comments about Bailey, she just turned 3 and loves to pose for her Granny to take pictures. And the great thing is she looks so different in so many different photos.

No offense intended, but I think you may want to re-calibrate your display Locky... the edit you made gave her skintone a really wonky pink color, and the greens in the background shifted to yellow. The color in the original looked correct... just flat. Here's my edit... bright colors, no shift.

I also have fond the original colors were spot in. Reason why I have pushed the saturation a bit in my edit, and I liked it.
