Need opinions

Hey im wondering how I can make this better... I see that the cat may actually be out of focus and i was focused on the wood to the right of its nose... what do you guys think? Is it good or is it just me?

Have you tried basic Photoshopping?
Unsharp mask, high pass, that sort of thing?

To be honest it looks good. The eyes are what you really want in focus since that is what you are drawn to first. I know it was for me because the color of your cats eyes are pretty and the lighting on them is perfect. Below is a picture of my cat see how I focused on the eyes and his nose is a little out of focus.

It looks like photographergirl's shot is actually more OOF than the OPs to me

OP - how did kittty get that booboo under the eye? Poor baby! I like this shot btw...I'd be stalking that cat waiting to try again, too, great colours in the eyes!

I have no idea... it really is not my cat... i go down to a bed and breakfast 6-12 times during the summer and its their cat... they are like my grandparents.

Honestly I dont even own photoshop. I would love to but I dont have the cash for it right now, and if i did have it I wouldnt know where to begin.. im not good with it. Ive used it once or twice but nothing major.

Dave - you can use pretty much any photo editing software for the basics.

Your camera came with Canon's DPP, I think, and it'll work.

You can also download free 30 trials of Adobe products including Lightroom 2 (get this! ) and Photoshop. Picasa is popular and free; GIMP is another option - in the Processing section here on POTN there is a whole sticky dedicated to GIMP.

Indeed, as kja said below your post, any editing program should do fine for the basics.

And a trial run of photoshop will let you have it for a month, so you can get used to the feel of it and decide whether it would be worth investing in.

First time I used Photoshop it was with CS2 and had it for 3 months before I learned how to use it. Now I have CS3 and cant seem to use any other program. But how I learned to use them was not by books but by tutorials. There are tons on the web and even on youtube. Just type in how to and the name of the program. Example how to cs2 You can also get Photoshop 7 pretty cheap and also Elements I think is under 100.00. I dont know since I dont use it. You can also use the software that came with your camera!
