:o I'm new to the site, but I have been lurking and gleaning as much as I can from all your posts. I thank you all for the information you have provided, especially you Gmen for your emails and the advice I do have some basketball pictures to post from my dughters last game. The camera, a 10D with a 85mm F/1.8 shot manually at iso 1600, with aperture between 1.8-2.0.amd shutter speed at 1/500s.
I'm finding out that shooting a 10D in raw really slows me down when I attempt to capture pictures so in the future I will probably save them as jpeg.
These pictures are in attachement form, so I hope this works.
So, here goes!!!

You did a nice job with the exposure. You also did a good job at "stopping" the action. I like to see faces and ball in all my shots. Here the shooters face does not show. Thats ok...its a good start. Your shots show the flow of the game well. Keep at it. Shoot, shoot, shoot.

Thanks for the encouragement TBphoto,
It's hard to get the shooter and ther faces I may have to go to the other side of the court since most players shoot from the right so probably I need to move to the left.
I doo have some more pictures which show some faces and close action

Good shots - well-exposed and good action. As you've said, you're pushing the limit of the 10D which doesn't write quickly to your CF card. So you do miss shots. :(

A few suggestions:

- Watch your horizons (making sure horizontal lines in the scence are horizontal in your image). In portrait mode, it's hard to keep the camera level. You can correct in post-processing by rotating the image slightly - easy to do in PS.

- Work on your crops; some are excellent, some could be improved.

- Try some shots at lower shooting angles - makes the young girls look taller and more dominating.

Top notch shots for a first attempt... that 85mm is a lovely piece of kit and you're certainly trying to get the most from it. The key now is to keep shooting - Maderito has some excellent advice also which is worth following.

Looking forward to the next batch of shots!
