I was originally just getting some pearl paper from B&H... Getting ready for son's senior pictures. Had to check out the new 580 EX II. I can't wait to try this with 430 EX as slave. Hope I can produce some good pics before wife gets bill. ;) I am getting more requests for portraits recently. (Daughter's softball)

Meh, the one extra stop the 580EX has is insignificant in most cases. The reason to have a 580 is the wireless master features, or the ability to take a CP-E4 battery pack (external link).

Thanks for that tidbit Tim. I plan on doing a lot of portraits next year for my daughter's softball team. Want to try some formal individual shots. I am also getting ready to take son's senior pics. We have alot of remote locations in mind and battery pack will certainly come in handy. Think I'll wait on the battery pack until I break the news to wife about new Flash. ;)

Just remember the 430 won't take a battery pack, not a Canon one anyway.

Smart move on the 580. I use one and also have a 430 (2 years old), which I really dislike. If you can, get 2 580s. Seriously. Someday soon I'm going to dump my 430.

I wouldn't mind a 430.

The new 430 is supposed to be much better than mine.
