It's one of the plants in a cactus collection planter I bought for my wife. She's been waiting for days for the flower to open. Not knowing what it was (and yet suspecting what it was) I put my nose to the bloom and took a whiff.

Buy some ground beef. Leave it outside for a few days in the sun. Same smell.

Flies and gnats were buzzing around this thing. The dogs were pretty interested as well.

I'm not a flower photographer and I was in the middle of cooking dinner when my wife called me out to take a photo of it. So there you go; natural light, wide aperture, shooting from my ankles, and my dinner was about to burn on the stove.

Stapelia gigantea bloom:

The first time I've ever seen dogs stopping to smell flowers. They kept coming back to the flower to figure out what it was.
