Most of the time Canon lens is the one to go for, but if budget is not a concern, will you still buy any 3rd party lenses?

The only lens i can think of that i would buy is the Sigma 150mm Macro, every other lens I would take a Canon over any 3rd party versions.

i went for a Sigma 70-200 2.8 instead of the Canon 70-200 2.8, i was given a great price on it.

i recently bought a Tamron 17-50 over the 17-55IS because the other half wouldn't let me spend that much on glass..

if i had the budget i would have bought the 17-55, quiet focus (not so much for the IS), i might have gone for the 70-200, but the research i did i couldn't really see that much difference between the Canon and the Sigma.. i'd probably go Sigma again because the lens is black and i like stealth :)

Sigma 50mm 1.4 is a good lens, it seems.

hmm... about the only ones I can think of are the
tokina 11-16 (compared to canon 10-22)
sigma 120-300 f/2.8 (no equivalent)
sigma 50 1.4 (when comparing to canon 1.4)
sigma 30 1.4 (when compared to canon 35 f/2 or 28 1.8)
sigma 50-150 f/2.8 (no equivalent)

Otherwise, the canons are better where there are identical offerings. price/performance ratio does sometimes favor third party in my opinion.

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 instead of the Canon 35mm f/1.4 (dons flame suit.....)

OK, if someone gave me a free 35mm f/1.4, I'd take it (for backup  ) but I see no need to swap out the Sigma for the L.

Also, the Sigma 10-20mm instead of the Canon 10-22mm.

For APS-C, I will take the Tokina 11-16, Sigma 30, and Sigma 150 over any Canon offering or equivalent. Otherwise, it's almost always Canon.

Edit: Adding the Sigma 50 Macro and and the new Sigma 200-500 f2.8 and (probably) the new Tamron 18-270 VC over any Canon equivalents.

Their 30mm 1.4 is also well regarded. I also agree with the 150mm Macro, it's not overly pricey, it's got more working distance than the 100mm, and it's f/2.8 unlike the 180's, and it's not as heavy as them.

The Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is the first lens I thought of when I saw this thread though. Yes it's not as wide as the Canon, it's range is worse, and it doesn't have USM, but the constant f/2.8 and it's insane sharpness more than make up for that.

Most 3rd party lenses that I'd be interested in don't really have Canon equivalents. USM is a pretty high priority for me, so I will almost always go with the Canon.

Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 over the Canon 10-22 for the speed.
Tokina 10-17 fisheye zoom
Sigma 10 f/2.8 fisheye

Two lenses....

Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro... I am sure that I would be equally as happy with the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens but, I got my Tamron on eBay for less than 4125 used. It is the older SP (non-Di) model but, is a terrific lens....

Tokina 12-24mm f/4... I absolutely love this lens and not just because (after buying the Canon lens hood) the Tokina is about 2/3 the price of the Canon 10-22mm. i like everything about this lens including the extra 4mm on the long side and the constant f/2.8 aperture.

However, if Tokina had offered the 11-16mm f/2.8 lens when I purchased the 12-24mm; I would have taken a serious look at this instead of the 12-24mm f/4 model.

Same question...is the Sigma 50 1.4 really is better than the Canon 1.4. I know the price comparison would tell you it might be a better lens...but I have yet to see a very detailedcomparison of both lens.

Tokina 11-16 for IQ, price and build. I thought there'd be more but that's all I can think of.

+1. Check my gear list. (I didn't choose a Sigma because the Canon 100 was lacking, I just wanted more working room)
