Hey guys, I know I've been posting lots of gear related threads these few days, but bear with me haha.

Here's my situation now. I intro'd dslr photography to my tutor, who's leaving to the UK for his studies with his photogear as well. My dad wants to give him something before we leave. Thing is, it can't be too expensive (at best around S$100, about US$70, I can up it by a small amt if needed) and should stay useful.

He's got:
450D, kit lens, 55-250IS, 50mm 1.8 (darn it, wanted to buy this for him!) and a small bag that fits everything he has. I believe he's still stuck with the supplied 4gig SD card, and has no cleaning kit or filters.

So, what are my options?

I was thinking of a cleaning kit, but a blower and a lens pen and cloths just don't seem like a good gift. I was also thinking about a set of filters (2x 58mm UV, 1x 52mm UV, 1x 58mm CPL) but don't know if it will benefit him that much.

What about a tripod? I can get those Benro (Induro? is that what you guys call it?) tripods for about US$90.

He loves taking pictures of his family and loves landscapes. Traveling to UK, he's bound to take some landscapes, so a CPL filter or tripod would serve him well me thinks.

What say you?

Cheers

I find when I'm out for the day I fill up my memory card very fast shooting in raw. Especially if I'm out for a day or 2 without access to download the card. I think another memory card and a cleaning kit would be very nice.

Since he doesnt have one now, a tripod would be very useful even if it has to be a cheap one...

Don't get a filter kit...

Don't get a filter kit. Most filter kits that I have noticed are not top-line filters. Instead, get him a top-line CPL such as B&W or Hoya Multicoated.

HVstar.com is a reuptable Hong Kong retailer. I noticed that they do not have a 58mm B&W CPL filter but, do have a Hoya Pro 1 Digital filer for $39.90 USD which is a lot less than most U.S. Retailers charge and I assume a lot less than UK retailers.

If your friend doesn't have lens hoods for his lenses, HVSTAR has some very inexpensive Chinese knock-offs of Canon lens hoods.
