I know i keep mine around jsut for using the hex head on it to tighten down the clams when needed.. however i really have not had to

It has two purposes - one is for keeping a cable release out of the way, the other is for tightening the hexagonal nuts on the tripod if or when they need it.

I thought it had something to do with a cord (which I never use with the monopod) but, I couldn't figure out the hex head. For some dumb reason, I thought it was a storage for a hex key rather than a wrench in its own right,
