Loose Lens Tube

Hi All, Just bought a G6 and noticed that the lens tube that hold the lens can be moved slighly from side to side. It seems to be loose. Is this normal? I'm not talking about the lens ring but the actual tube that extends with the lens. Pictures are in focus but suspect something is wrong. Please put my mind at rest as I can't get hold of the dealer right now and want to use the camera this weekend. Thanks.

I just took a look at mine for you and it also has a tiny bit of play side to side, takes wonderful pictures. Go have fun!

Thanks John. Mine has more than a tiny bit of play, it will actuall rattle if I shake the camera. The lens ring also is not a tight fit. Is yours?

Ditto for me, also.

I used to worry about such annoying things (like the front lens element wobble) but life is too short for that........I'm still amazed at the image quality from this silver gem, even after almost 6000 files..........

Just get a lensmate adapter and uv filter if such things continually bother you. As the old saying goes, what you dont see wont hurt you.

Hi Boz
If I shake it you can hear the lens tube moving but I think they are made that way. Don't know about the ring as I use the Canon 58mm adapter so I can have filters on to protect the lens and create better color. John

From what I have read - there should be a little bit of play in the lens assembly on the G-series cameras. Noting to worry about whatsoever. I've had a G2. G3 and G5 and they all have had it.

Lateral movement is not a problem, its can it go in and out you should worry about.

Mine wobbles a bit as well BTW
