Quick question:

I have an Adorama TTL sync cable for Canon. I use it on my XTi and 40D with my 430EX. I also have three Promaster flashes for Canon film cameras. Obviously I cannot use these directly on the hot shoe for fear of shorting it out, but can I use the sync cable on the digital bodies and film flashes or just eh 430EX ?

Are you certain it is 'TTL' cable, and not 'ETTL' cable for Canon? TTL is for Canon film cameras only, ETTL cable works with dSLRs

Pretty sure it's ETTL, but the Promaster flash is film flash.

Therein lies a problem, the flash unit itself! ETTL requires a flash unit which can emit a preflash, and flash units not designed for ETTL support are incapable of that. So even if the cable was ETTL support, the flash is not!

Provide a brand and model cord, the generic reference to 'Adorama TTL sync cable for Canon' is too vague to look up in Adorama web set for me to tell you whether or not the cable is or isn't ETTL compatible, separate from the flash unit.
