I have the folling setup

1. pocket wizard pair.
2. one canon 580ex blitz
3. one canon 580ex11 blit

When I set the 580ex11 to the camera as master and use the other ex as slave all works well.

When I connect the pocket wizard to the camera flash shoe and second pocket wizard to the sync port on the ex11 then it works and the slave flashes early.

Both flashes are on the plastic foot provided with the flashes. I read that the pre flash is fixed if I set cf 5 to 1 sett the flash as ttl.

Now when I do this the slave flash does not fire. ?

Can someone tell me how to set both flashes to manaul where second flash is slave to the first and fires together with the master. Over the camera signal

I can only get this at the moment with ettl but not with pocket wizard. Sorry if I have not explained my self well.

I had it working once for three days Shot these test shots

Do not use CF 5-1 (TTL) TTL is only for film cameras because it reads light reflected off the film plane. (there is no film plane on a DSLR)

I think these threads may answer your other questions:

I can't say for sure so forgive me if I'm wrong, but the Canon Master Slave situation doesn't work when in manual with Pocket Wizards. I believe this only works when in TTL or ETTL mode. You will probably need to use a Pocket Wizard on both flashes or the Canon ST-E2

flash setup two off camera flashes - Carls reciept working

I read the posts and could not get it to work when setting the first flash to maual as this dissabled the 580EX 11 snc port.

With the following combination it works for me

Subject: flash setup two off camera flashes - Carls reciept working

Flash1 = 580ex 11
Mode = ETTL
Channel = CH1
function = Master
Set on plastic foot (metal shoe does not work)
pocet wizard flash port to 580 flash sync port.
Change flash power with plus minus compensation on flash

Flash 2 = 580EX
mode M flashing on display
function = slave
zoom = set manually
power = set manally
Set on plastic foot or blitz shoe (metal shoe does not work)
Change flash power 1/1, 1/2 ect on flash.

regards Carl

When Flash 1 is set to ETTL mode, it will fire at full power or at 1/32 power if the custom function is set to fire at 1/32 when the test button is pressed. In either case, you won't have much control over the output of the flash even if you use the FEC. The way to get around this is to set the flash to manual mode, not ETTL mode. The problem with doing this, however, is that the PC port gets disabled and you won't be able to trigger the flash via PC port. So, what you need to do is get a hotshoe adapter (http://flashzebra.com/hotshoes-shoes/0065.shtml (external link)) and connect the flash to the PW unti via this adapter.

You may also want to type "hybrid triggering" into the search feature and read the many threads on combining a basic sync device (like a radio slave, two conductor flash cord, etc) with Canon's own infrared triggering mode.

Enjoy! Lon
