EW-83E on 177-55

Thoughts on this? The seller I bought the 17-55 off of had the EW-83E before the EW-83J came out so it was included. At first I was going to order an aftermarket but I'm starting to like the size/shape (83J looks massive).

My question is, am I missing out on significant flare reduction? And also does the 83J seem not so solid mounted as well? The 83E is a bit finicky.

EW-83E is hood for UWA lenses. Due its shape it is not very effective. EW-83J is longer and does a better job of protecting from flare and damage. I use it on 17-40 and it is very firm. Don't know about 17-55 but it should be the same.

The 17-55's biggest weakness is flare. I'd use the hood designed for it

yeah, the flare sux bad... a hood can cut reduce the chances of those from happening

Always have a hood on your 17-55 it is worth it for flare control and general protection. Do not skimp on the hood, you have an expensive lens it is worth protecting.
