Old Canon 70-200mm f/2.8?

Is it bad to buy a used Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 with the date code UJ? The lens it self is in decent condition, but I was wondering if there was anything else I should consider, lol

From what I've read, there should be no difference between a UJ and a UW. All the internal components are the same. I'd worry about a very old IS unit, but for a non-IS, if it's a good deal, I'd go for it.

the next thing on my list is a nice new Tokina 11-16mm to complement my 17-55mm IS, and 70-200mm

then a small payment of 3.5K for a 300mm IS

Looks pretty similar to my gear . 2.8 through the range except for my prime. I'm pretty happy as my flash hardly ever needs to make it's way out of the bag.
