it's to bad that you were not right on top of the surfer...that would a killer shot up close and dredging, with that back light on the lip of the wave.....nice DOF in this shot tho....:) if you're in the water, the best shots are not from the "Safe Zone" unless you're shooting 70-200

Yes, very good tips.
I have had lots of trouble this day because of strong( real strong) current and never really found my self in the right spot for the good ones.

I know what you mean about the currents, they've been horrible lately. I agree that it would've been a killer image if you were much closer, but I think it's still a good shot. From your vantage point, the wave doesn't look all that big, but by the looks of that whitewash blowing up behind him, I'd say it was pretty heavy that day.
