preferably on a muslin. Just wanting to see if that is something that would even work or if it wouldn't show much color at all. Looking for something that would show color behind the subject and then fade off to a black.

As I recall colors on the white background when gelled looked subdued where as the colors on the black background when gelled where nice and vibrant. IIRC the user did use paper and not muslin.
