Hey all, not sure where I was supposed to put this post? Rumors or here? Mods could you please move it if it's in the wrong section?

In any case, I'm looking to buy a 5D. But I'm waiting for the supposed release of version 2, whenever that is? In any case, how much do you guys think the original 5D will drop in price? How about the used market, what kind of price drops do you think we'll see?

I don't follow prices too much, so any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

if it is a new Mark on the 5D line rather than a whole new body (e.g. 3D or 7D), then the 5D will be discontinued once the 5D Mark II is ready to hit the shelves. this is a very vital thing for everyone to look at and think about (especially Canon).

a very wise move them to regain the full-frame market would be to keep the 5D as a standalone in it's own series and implement a whole new line; two if at all possible.

well, you do remember what the 5D's MSRP was upon initially being released, don't you? i imagine they would release a new body holding to that some MSRP and potentially a higher end FF somewhere along the lines of 1D Mark III price; potentially eliminating APS-H (1.3x) sensor size altogether in the near future.

they're still a mystery body that has gone without very little mention or speculation by any of us because we are so focused on a 5D successor finally coming our way. we know for a fact it won't be an APS-C sensor size body as the 50D already filled the niche pre-Photokina and the 1000D has taken care of a rather useless niche in lowest end of the prosumer line.

it is merely my estimate that there will be a 3D and 7D announced; a 7D at the least. for them to establish a Mark on the 5D line would be a poor marketing move if they want to get the lantern back from Nikon and carry it on as the light-bearer for the full-frame market.

we will soon see :) btw has photokina happened already? i assume thats when the 50D and 18-200 was announced? but ur thinking definenetly makes sense as long as they dont get rid of 1.6 no one would be really mad as there is no 1.3X specific lenses

APS-C is not going anywhere and i can safely say that. while DX format for Nikon looks like it may be fleeting away, the 1.6x market is just far too robust with Canon to see it going the way of the samurai anytime soon.

i believe Photokina is happening September 23rd, so we'll now for sure by the end of this month what the final quarter of this has in store for us current and former Canon users.

with the exclusion of the quote BB code, i was almost gonna swear someone was plagiarizing my opinion (and typeface)!

but really, APS-C and EF-S isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

well, Canon flopped with marketing on this one. it is a new Mark on the 5D line and looks like 5Ds are bound to be off the shelves rather soon.

g'luck to all who seek a 5D Mark I.

There still seems to be some skepticism about the new 5D replacement. The 5D MKII is now listed on the official Canon web site with all of the specs and an MSRP of $2699.

IMHO, the 5d2 is long overdue and expected, and the 5D used market has already digested this information/expection, which has been reflected in the price accordingly. I don't expect the used price of 5d1 to drop dramatically from the current level, which is about $1500.
