I don't think the pictures do it justice. I've never seen the Mt. Whitney ones (though I can imagine that much of an elevation hike, WOW)

If you look at the one of WW that I posted, you can see people on the bottom of the trail to give you a scale idea. But the picture does not even come close to reality.

Here you go, this is the shot I found.

They had the posters for batman last time we were in gamestop but he has more to save before he can afford it. A whole bunch of his games were stolen at camp this summer, we haven't really replaced any and he hasnt' complained. We've cut way down on video game time either way, he gets about 30 mins on Sat and another 30 mins on Sunday and that's it.

 Keep your camera close at night when you sleep.

Nah, they know that I would do them bodily harm if they touch my camera!! It's just weird for them that I all of a sudden want to take pics of them all time. I haven't had a camera in yrs. Now that I do, I take it everywhere and take pics of everything. The kids think I have lost my mind.... they may be right:p

what kind of a system does he have? That's very sad (re: being stolen) :( We used to give our son a time limit (daily though) on his games. It was a good thing, I think.

Nope, you can play one player. The second player can drop in and out whenever. There are some levels though that 2 players help a great deal.

that's like how it was with us...except we didn't get into photography again until our kids had moved.

Really? The length of the trails must be deceiving in that shot I saw. It looked like a thin snail trail from where the shot was taken higher up from the switchbacks .

It's hard to get a good shot of them that shows how steep it really is because the terrain all looks the same. You can't really see the depth. I just loaded up my Topo software and set a couple waypoints to see the total elevation gain. At the bottom of the switchbacks the elevation is approximately 11,950'. At the top it's about 13,450'. That's even steeper than I thought...

Here are a couple shots of the switchbacks from my hikes. They show them from near the top, looking back down.

You know what sucks? The last time I did Angel's Landing (via Walter's Wiggles) was pre-DSLR. I think I took a dozen pics from the top with my kodak, and that is it. :(
I'm hoping that once I lose a significant amount of weight, and wear knee braces, AND use those hiking poles that look like ski poles to help me on the descent, that I will be able to do it again. I WANT to do it again. I need to. It's gorgeous beyond belief, and such a feeling of accomplishment when you get to the top. (WW is only a teeny part of the hike).

There are a couple parts of the hike where it is only a one way, along the side of the cliff, and you have to hold on to a chain that is anchored to the side of the mountain.

You described my wife....she hated me taking loads of pictures when I was using film because I would just take random shots getting used to Av, Tv and M modes. Now that digital is the norm, her new thing is "You never want to go anywhere unless you can take your camera and take pictures." Well, DUH! Who wouldn't?
