Check with your local community colleges....many of them have continuing ed programs and offer courses in framing and matting. Cutting your own mats is a very simple process and not that expensive to get started in. Uncut matboard is relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme of things.

I took a class when I first moved here 7 years ago...it was the best 8 week investment I ever made (2 hours once a week). Once you learn the basics of laying a mat out for cutting and the correct ratios....it is a piece of cake. I can do a custom metal frame and mat an image for less than you can buy a stock plastic frame at Michael's.

I think it cost $50 for the class and materials...well worth it.

Oh, I beg to differ... Every copy of XP I've ever used can open a zip file right out of the box. It opens up into a Windows Explorer window. I haven't actually tried it with my one Vista computer because I never actually use MS's software to handle zip files, but I'm guessing it should do the same. You're gonna make me go get my laptop and test it in Vista too, aren't you?

WinXP Pro here and I've never had a problem opening .zip files straight from the box.

CrazieCricket wrote in post #6475670 (external link)
Well I downloaded the trial version of WinZip. It still won't do it. So I wrote to customer support at the onOne site. We'll see what they have to say.

Hmm. Sounds like the file is corrupted.

Cat, those shots of Marian are just great, all of them. Though I do like them all, I kinda favour the very lastest one the most for some reason, for starters it is a great pose.

Cute model helps too, kinda makes me wish I was a college boy ;)...
...ok NOT, I sure would not wanna go back that far in life, might not survive if I tried it again.

I was going to post a 'Yeah -that!' smiliey to Jim's post, then I read the second paragraph. I wasn't as wild during my college days - mind you, I still don't think I'd like to go back to them. I'm pretty happy where I am with life now.

I think I will shoot myself today.

Only in a photographers world is that not an alarming statement.

As I'm scrolling through them, I'm thinking of all the work I have to get done (HAVE to get done), and I'm wondering why is it that I'd rather work on something I don't have to do?

I have that problem too - that's why I'm on here so much... instead of doing the things I HAVE to do...

Jamie Holladay wrote in post #6477464 (external link)
Well next time I'll say I'm headed to the bridge for a jump.

Marian just got home from work.
She got "Employee of the Month" at her store. *grin*

She said that honor has never been given to a courtesy clerk (bagger) at her store.

COOL, huh?

Woohoo. Great stuff. Congrats to Marian :D

I wished I knew how to cut mat board. I had some done at Hobby Lobby and it cost a lot.

I learned to cut mats when I was preparing stuff for camera club. An accurate ruler, straight edge, sharp knife and a bevel cutter are all that is needed. I got a bevel cutter for about £15 the other day (less than $30). A bit of practice and you're away. Not done any framing though - I would like to try that.

08:23 here. Just about to start getting ready for church later this morning, then we're out for lunch celebrating Lorinda's Mum's birthday. Eventually, I may get round to processing the shots I took on holiday in August

Did you know you can open a jpeg in camera raw with CS3? It gives you a lot of options.

Yep. One of the best things about CS3. You can treat a JPG just like a RAW file.

I've always preferred wood frames. Are those easy to do yourself, too?

Wooden frames are a bit more complex...but you can do them yourself if you have some basic woodworking skills. You can also buy finished wood frames and just do the glazing and back finish yourself.
