YaY That means you'll come this way ... doing happy dance ,

Yes, yes I will!

HI LISA! Glad you are safe and sound and can't wait to see some maternity shots (if Little will let them be posted :))

RE: Joy of shooting. I already gave my 11 cents (inflation) but I want to share an observation I made a while ago.
As most of you know, my uncle loves to photograph nature. He likes nothing better than to have a captive audience and recount his adventure as he scrolls through his photo's via the tv.

As he was showing his latest crop to me the other day, I was mentally noting things like blown highlights, motion blur, missed focus point, composition and other assorted stuff. My uncle was just enjoying the photos, and enjoying sharing them. That is what the joy of photography is, I think. The stories and the memories. The ability to say 'I was there and here is the proof.'

Dan's idea of reverting to a P&S for a while may not be a bad one. After all, it *is* about the photographer, not the camera, yes?

When we were on vacation at the lake I was so happy to get to use my 100 macro and my tubes. I have had all my crap in the house and could go abotu changing this and that and not really leaving a 50 foot zone, it was heaven for me. I took so many shots of things I dont' often get too. I haven't picked up my camera since except for my little baby cousin and that was more of a job.

the family is overjoyed with the photos, I was pleased with them as well but they weren't half as fun as the pics at the lake.

Sorry to hear that, Paula.

Don't let it discourage you from Canon lenses. Bad copies can happened, but; the percentage is low. Frustrating however, when it happens to you, I know.

:( Sorry Paula. That sucks.

yeah, it happens.:( was just hoping to sneak by with getting all good stuff the 1st time around... I so hate sending stuff back.

Paula have you tried switching it to manual focus and then back to auto? sometimes the switch isn't all the way there, know what I mean?

Yeah I've done that several times. I've taken quite a few pics with the lens, but have to use manual focus to do it.

Experienced much of what you are describing when I took the lenses around the outside of my house a few weeks ago. No pressure, no one over my shoulder suggesting this or that, just total relaxed shooting. Didn't matter to me if stuff turned out or not, I was just playing and had a blast.

Now tis time to go glitz up. Sure hope I get home sooner tonight and relax quicker.

Buy me a ticket to come see you Jim :) a good use of air miles ..hehe

You will have to run that one by Lisa, and she seems to want them all for herself (and me too). Fortunately we do get hordes because of business expenses. :D

Sounds like fun. Though you might want more than 1 year. :D This is similar to what me and Lisa want to do after retirement. We are looking for the right lightweight trailer and want to do trips in all directions.

Little is so cute pregnant...she's going to let me do some "casual" maternity shots on Thurs.

I was thinking about what Dan said yesterday and I think that I'm struggling with the same thing. But for me it's because I've lost the joy of shooting because I'm stressing so much. I'd like to go back to just wandering and shooting for fun like we used to do. Because even now when we go shoot something with a group or whatever, I feel pressured to shoot something amazing and if I don't I'm disappointed. But when we were just out walking the other day and taking photos of textures and playing with the camera (so he could learn the M3) I enjoyed myself more than I had in ages. There was no "excellent" photo but I didn't care. So what I think is missing is the joy. We used the share the experiences and the photos were secondary reminders, I miss that....anyway that's just my two cents.

Looking forward to the big Little shots Lisa. :D

Working for a living doing what you enjoyed more on a hobby level definitely makes you approach it differently. That was the same for me in my business as it grew. Doing the work on my own house is again more fun for me, as it is more personal to me. You are so right that you need to just go rambling about shooting only for the fun of it with no expectations, just hopes for that good shot. :D

You know I use to make dog clothes for Miss Mini and everyone wanted me to make them and sell them I said no even tho I had some great offers for store space ect ..The truth was I didnt want to commit to doing it because I enjoyed being creative and was thinking it would become a job and at the time i didn't want that .
So I guess its a good idea to stay true to your nature , my artist friends say its not too much a choice for them the need is so strong to create ..its a way of life
I feel like that often ..my need to be creative is strong no matter how bad I am at it :)
I was so disconnected from that part of me due to alot of childhood trama that when I reconnected with that creative part I"ll never let it go again ..I feel whole being creative and thats a whole different place than having the need for attention .Its also a place that took alot of work to get to for me and with that I"m clear .For me Creativity =Joy

end of rant ...>>smiles ..

I also recently bought a video camera. Here are a couple Kitteh videos: LINKY1 (external link) and LINKY2 (external link)

 On both, I was expecting Kitteh to tear something up or cause some sort of mayhem.....oh well, next time. I did notice though that there were already 20+ views on both of the videos. Either some are lurking here and clicking the links or there are some bored YouTube people clicking on all the cute kitty videos.

So then, you probably don't want to buy me some Jimmy Buffett (external link) tickets.

 Not even worth the price.

JWright wrote in post #6318704 (external link)
Heather and I went to see Jimmy Buffett here at one of the local outdoor venues. The venue (external link) has a lawn area open to blanket seating. This is where we had our tickets for. It was really nice. Until the concert started... We were mobbed by all the drunks in the back and pretty much shoved off our blanket. By the time the concert was over I swore I would never go to another event there again. What is so typical of these events, at least in San Diego, is that all the prime seats are gone the day tickets go on sale. Most them are comped to promoters and radio stations for give aways. It's nothing but a big racket...

That is the reason I don't like going to concerts...surprised the wife one year which turned out to be a bad experience for me and I hated it....not to mention the freakin' long a$$ line just to get in. I was skeptical going to see Elton John, but of course that was in Vegas and the wife wanted to see a show...and they were free tickets.

Harm wrote in post #6318706 (external link)
I think next year, the wifey would like to go to the Rhine Valley.

Cool, I want to go there too. Be sure to let me know the dates that you will be taking me along  :p

Harm wrote in post #6318803 (external link)
not a problem. I think a quick stop off in Sedona (been recommended by many) on the way up to flagstaff is on the cards...

I recommend Sedona too. I went there when I took a side trip to the Grand Canyon one year. I LOVED the color of the rocks there. I used to have a tshirt that was dyed using the Sedona rocks/clay, but I've lost it.

Has anyone done any helicopter flights of the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, that would be something I might be interested in. I did a search and there are a dozen companies offering the service. I gotta use up some of these travel points some how.

I did not get to do the Grand Canyon tour, but when I ever get the chance, I am going to use this company--> http://www.maverickhelicopter.com/lasvegas.html (external link)
I liked their packages they offer which includes lunch on certain ones....some tours last sun up to sun down....and they give you a DVD of the flight, or buy...can't remember.

That would be a fun trip....sorta like going around to all the MLB fields in one season....now that's a trip I wanna do one day.

I'm here safe...got that meeting with the B&G this afternoon (I've never met them before...hope we mesh). Hope it goes well since I'm committed to shooting their wedding in 4 days.

Little is so cute pregnant...she's going to let me do some "casual" maternity shots on Thurs.

Good luck on the meeting and looking forward to the Little Little shots.

That's when I enjoy photography too....I really don't have a niche or expertise of any type of photography, just enjoy taking shots.....many just end up being snapshots since I rarely have time to actually make a trip to go out and shoot on a photo excursion which you and the other OR contingent have.....even if on your own or with Dan. Wife gives me the  eyes when I want to wander around just to take pictures. Then, if there is something I want to do as a family one day, maybe on a weekend, I get "you only want to do that so you can take your camera and take pictures". Well, duh...I want memories of me there.
