Just registered and received my EF 70-200 f4L IS yesterday. A beautiful lens for sure. I shot the routine signs and other stuff just to see the results and check out some of the features. I was not disappointed! Fantastic IQ and excellent operation using AF and IS. The weight is not much more or feels about the same as my EF-S 17-55mm. Here are three shots... no crops to pixel peep on... just pictures...:) 40D body (50D... on the waiting list.)

The car shot was PP to produce a "beast" appearance and the sign a nice example of color and bokeh. Both shot wide open (f/4.0) in Av mode. The third is a AEB (+2, 0, -2) @ f/7.1 and processed in Photomatix as an HDR as there was bright sun, deep and moderate shade. All hand held.

Congrats. Even at F4, it seems to be doing a great job with bokeh. I really want a 24-70 2.8 L (hopefully that rumored IS version comes out soon, which my dad will probably get, and then I can make payments on his current 24-70) :)

Great lens - super combination...

Congratulations on your new 70-200mm f/4L IS lens. The lens is spectacular and the combination of this lens and the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens is (IMO) the absolute best two lens combination out there for general and travel photography.

I use my 70-200mm f/4L IS 3-4x more often than I was ever able to use the non-IS f/L model. The IS capability is great! I can shoot down to 1/60 second with 100% sharp imagery and at 1/30 second with a very respectable percentage of keepers. This is at 200mm hand held.

BTW, the 70-200mm f/4L IS lens does a great job using a 1.4x TC as a 280mm f/5.6 lens with IS.

I use these two lenses on a pair of bodies (30D AND 40D) and I effectively have a focal range from 17-200mm (280mm with the TC) with optimum image quality and top-notch A/F speed. I don't miss the 55mm to 70mm gap at all.

I used to carry a 3-lens combination (12-24mm Tokina, 24-70L and the 70-200mm f/4L IS) however, the 17-55mm takes the place of both the 12-24mm and the 24-70L in many instances. When I need wider, I can usually shoot a pano. I can get decent single string panos hand held. (see image)

The 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens lets me shoot as slow as 1/10 second hand held with a goodly perentage of keepers at 55mm. This lens is a great low light glass.

YOU HAVE A GREAT COMBINATION - BEST OF LUCK WITH THEM!

I seem to recognize that name and the Master Chief PO avatar makes me think I know of you. I was a Photo LDO and just recently attended the Chief's Round Up in LV. Am I correct in assuming you are one of us...:-)
